Rails Summit Brazil 2008

Update: Take a look at this more recent post for more details. Important: we are now Rails Summit Latin America! :-)

South America was always out of everybody’s radar. But we’ve been working hard. We finally have a vibrant and interesting community, several bloggers, coders, writers and much more!

It is finally time for a RailsConf-like event to happen here. And that’s the mission I set to myself this year. I am very proud to announce RAILS SUMMIT BRAZIL 2008 by Locaweb. It is confirmed to take place at October 15-16th in São Paulo, Brazil. That’s right, 2 full days, with 2 parallel sessions at afternoons!

More than that: we confirmed no less than the Elis Regina Auditorium, at the Anhembi Convention Center, one of the biggest places in the country. This is going to be huge! For a limited amount of time we will charge R$ 300 (around USD 190) for both days, including lunch and coffee breaks. And what will you see there?

I’ve confirmed David Hansson himself (though he will be in Europe, so he is going to present through video downlink, but all the others will be physically here); the great Chad Fowler ; JRuby’s maintainers, Charles Nutter and Thomas Enebo ; directly from the Netherlands, of Phusion we will have Ninh Bui and Hongli Lai ; RSpec’s maintainer, David Chelimsky ; Github’s creator, Chris Wanstrath ; the renowned Dr. Nic Williams ; The Rails Way book author, Obie Fernandez ; also Jay Fields, from DRW Trading (former ThoughtWorks consultant).

And many great Brazilian Railers as well such as Manoel Lemos, from Brasigo ; Carlos Eduardo, from e-Genial ; our own JRuby-man Fabio Kung , from Caelum ; the renowned Agile evangelist Vinicius Teles from Improve it ; George Guimarães from Pagestacker.

There’s probably more to come, just keep checking this blog out for the details when we open the registration website.

Locaweb is the biggest Web Hosting company in Brazil, and probably in South America, and I joined this incredible company because of their commitment for quality and cutting edge technology. They are highly committed to Ruby on Rails and that’s why I am confident that this is going to be the conference to match the RailsConf well known standard of quality.

If you have any questions, for now, e-mail me. The registration website should be available around the beginning of August and I will release the definitive program schedule around the same time.
